Why restore furniture? That is a
good question, one that I am asked all the time. "Why should I spend x amount
of dollars on a piece when I can go out and buy a new one for the same amount or
less?" There are many reasons why - here are the two most common.
Sentimental Value: Was it your
grandfather's desk? Did you rock your children to sleep in that chair? Or were
you rocked to sleep in that chair? Furniture,
like family stories, is something that can be passed on and cherished. I am often
asked to leave some defects in the furniture that I restore because my uncle put
that chip in the table when he was a child with a pocket knife or my
grandmother made those dents when she used to clamp her food grinder on the edge of the
table. Restored furniture is a tangible link to the past and to the future.
